Score High Gunsmithing is your one stop shop for Hornady's new 6.5 Creedmoor. Since its introduction by Hornady we have been building Rifles chambered for this amazing new round of ammunition. The first 6.5 Creedmoor rifle we built was for Hornady's sponsored shooter, Charles "Tate" Moots. Tate's rifle and virtually every rifle since his has delivered 1/4 to 3/8 MOA accuracy with factory ammunition. After seeing the performance of Tate's rifle I had to have one for myself. My rifle pictured below was built on a Remington 700 action in a McMillan A-5 stock. It has a 26" Brux barrel fitted with our Tactical Bolt muzzle brake. I personally have not used the 120 A-Max ammo but the 140 A-Max gives me 2775 fps and I have fired several 1/4 MOA groups.
The 6.5 Creedmoor delivers world-class long-range performance in a factory loaded cartridge.
sharper 30° shoulder and aggressive body taper allow the 6.5 Creedmoor to
deliver higher velocities than other 6mm and 6.5mm cartridges. and yet it
operates at standard 308 Winchester pressures, thus increasing barrel and case
life. Coupled with these velocities and these bullets, Hornady has developed a
round that is flat shooting, wind defying and extremely accurate. The 6.5
Creedmoor is the ultimate match cartridge.

Depending on your needs we offer 2 levels of accurizing services to Remington 700 rifles. All Remington 700s fall into one of two categories light/sporter or heavy/target. The light/sporter models are confined to only level 1 (unless the barrel is replaced). Because the taper of the light/sporter barrel starts immediately at the recoil lug and tapers quickly to a sporter weight there is not enough barrel material to remove all of the original threads and cut new ones. The heavy/target models such as, but not limited to, the Sendero, VLS, VSF, or BDL Varmint are suited to both levels of our accurizing services.

The ultimate epoxy bedding compound!
Epoxy or glass bedding has been popular for many years as a tool for accurizing rifles of all types. Accuracy depends on shot-to-shot consistency. A great deal of a rifle’s ability to achieve this consistency is dictated by the relationship of the metal and the stock. During the firing process, a great deal of recoil or kick is created which tends to shift the barrel and action in the stock. This change dramatically affects the rifles ability to achieve shot-to-shot repeatability. In order to achieve extreme accuracy, we need to go beyond just good fit. We need to manage vibration cycles. In nature, all things vibrate and in order for a rifle to achieve extreme repeatability we must minimize the vibration cycles and make them as consistent as possible. Once again we are back to the stock to metal fit. Pro-Bed 2000 epoxy is the best tool available to meet that requirement. There has been a number of epoxy products used by the gunsmithing fraternity over the years and almost all of them were not designed for the sole purpose of accurizing rifles. Pro-Bed 2000 was formulated by a gunsmith with over 20 years of professional experience in epoxy bedding rifles. Pro-Bed 2000 directly addresses every problem unique to epoxy bedding.

Carvability: Pro-Bed 2000 is not brittle. The cured epoxy can easily be carved, ground or machined without softening or chipping even in very thin sections.
Appearance: The unique characteristics of Pro-Bed 2000 will make it easy to produce a finished product to be proud of, free of voids and surface imperfections for both the professional gunsmith and novice alike.

ACCURACY. Everybody wants good accuracy, from the twice a year hunter to the competitive bench rest shooter. A properly bedded rifle will do more for accuracy than any other single investment. The SCORE HIGH BENCH REST PILLARS enable you to do just that, and do it easier than any other pillar system on the market. This item is a must for anyone who requires the most in accuracy from their rifle. Gunsmiths and shooters alike will appreciate easy installment and the solid, non flexing, action to stock fit. The pillars match the contour of the action (Radius for Remington or Flat for Winchester 70) for the best in a stress free fit. The pillars mount directly to the action to maintain perfect alignment. No marking, cutting, filing or machining. The pillars are adjustable for proper action to trigger guard spacing. Because they are attached to the receiver they will not rotate during bedding (a gunsmith's pet peeve) as with other current pillar systems. Three kits enable you to choose what is right for you:

Pillar Drilling jig for Remington 700
For Purchase or Rental
![]()
$239.95 for the complete set for 700 LA, SA ADL and BDL.
$134.95 for specific models such as 700 ADL short action
$48.00 for 5 day rental
It has never been easier to drill a Remington 700 stock to accommodate bedding pillars than with our Pillar Drilling Jig. You no longer need a milling machine or even a drill press. Hardened steel drill guide bushings are held in place by a round bar the same diameter as a Remington 700 receiver. This bar is accurately positioned on the top of the stock’s inletting using a special guide pin that pilots off of either the front or rear trigger guard screw hole. The top bar with the drill bushings are held firmly in position by a screw passing thru the top bar and into a special platform machined to fit the bottom of the stock. Once the drill jig is firmly in position the hardened drill bushing will not allow the special drill bit supplied with each kit to wonder from the correct path. It takes literally seconds to accurately drill any Remington 700 stock to accept bedding pillars using only a hand drill.

When boring the stock
to accept the aluminum pillars it is easy to get good results every time
when using a piloted counterbore. There are 2 sizes available 9/16
diameter for boring the stocks of Winchesters and Howas and 5/8 diameter for
all Remingtons. To best fit the holes of the trigger guard screws each
counterbore comes with 2 pilots, 9/32 and 5/16 diameters. |
FUMED SILICA
|
The best method of thickening epoxy by far is through the use of Fumed Silica. There are times when bedding a stock that you need the epoxy to stay exactly where you put it. Fumed silica can be added to Pro-Bed 2000 to such an extent to make the epoxy as thick as dough with absolutely no negative effects on the finished product. The thixotropic properties of the Fumed Silica allow for ease of mixing with the epoxy. |

Our most popular brake
Eliminate 60% to 80% of your rifle's recoil by using it's expanding gases to brake the rearward movement of almost any center fire rifle. Kick is produced in two different ways referred to as PRIMARY and SECONDARY recoil. The powder in your cartridge when ignited, expands violently, pushing the bullet through and out your barrel, but for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, this is primary recoil. Unfortunately this is something we must all learn to live with because there is nothing we can do to reduce it or eliminate it. Fortunately this makes up for only a small percentage of your rifles kick. Secondary recoil is the big problem. This is the recoil created when those gases escape the end of your barrel and propel your rifle like a rocket into your shoulder. Fortunately this can be dealt with by using a muzzle brake. When the bullet leaves the end of the barrel and passes through the break, the back of the bullet acts like a valve and the gases are released at right angles to the barrel canceling each other out and eliminating the gas induced, or secondary recoil. The SCORE HIGH MUZZLE BRAKE has a row of ports on top to eliminate muzzle rise and no ports on the bottom so as not to raise dust off the ground or create shock waves off the ground.

All rifles are not the same. They vary in design according to their application. Just as using truck tires on a sports car gives poor handling so does using a hunting rifle style muzzle brake on an AR (automatic rifle) style rifle. In order for each type of rifle to achieve the best possible performance we have found it necessary to make the Score High Muzzle Brake in 3 different styles, The Hunter, The Tactical Bolt and The AR Brake.
The expanding gas that creates recoil always forces the rifle backwards on the center line of the bore.
On a hunting rifle the center of support or the center of the butt plate is significantly below the center of the bore and the greater that difference the more the muzzle of the rifle will rise when fired. The Hunter style Score High Muzzle Brake has four ports on each side, no ports on the bottom, and four smaller ports on top. The escaping gases from the top ports hold the rifle’s muzzle down, offering the shooter the greatest control over the rifle.
Tactical bolt action rifles or rifles primarily fired from a bipod have a different need. The downward thrust from the 4 top ports exerts pressure on the bipod causing a slight bounce during recoil. The Tactical Bolt style Score High Muzzle Brake, with the top of the brake limited to 2 ports, perfectly balances the muzzle rise with the downward thrust for the best bipod optimizing shooting performance.
Because AR (Automatic Rifle) style rifles are supported so close to the center of the bore top ports actually drive the muzzle down robbing the shooter of total control. The AR Brake style Score High Muzzle Brake has no ports on top or the bottom, it only has 4 large ports on each side, giving total control with both automatic and semi-automatic fire.
The Hunter, $139 installed. This requires a gunsmith installation and includes threading and re-crowning the muzzle, custom fitting and finishing of the brake to match the current finish on the rifle. Available in stainless or blued.
The Tactical Bolt, $179.00 installed. This requires a gunsmith installation and includes threading and re-crowning the muzzle, custom fitting and finishing of the brake to match the current finish on the rifle. Available in stainless or blued.

Good accuracy greatly depends on having a quality barrel properly installed. Great pains are taken to insure that you get the best possible accuracy from your selected barrel. To start with, all barrel work is done in a four jaw independent chuck, indicated in to within .0001”. Our reamers are fitted with a complete size range removable pilots. Only a perfect pilot to bore fit guarantees a concentric chatter free throat. The crown of each barrel is cut with a razor sharp tool then polished and honed for the perfect bullet release We have tight neck reamers along with short and standard length throats for almost all common target cartridges and we are getting more all the time.
We install barrels from a variety of manufactures from both pre-contoured blanks and unturned blanks. These prices only include polishing and finishing of the new barrel. We can refinish the entire firearm for an additional fee. This service is priced on request. We can obtain barrels from any manufacturer if you have a favorite that’s not mentioned below.

The best accuracy possible is everybody's goal. Our 29-point diagnostic is the straightest line to that goal. Many times the diagnostic process itself drastically enhances accuracy.. Each diagnostic begins by first measuring all critical tolerances such as the bore diameter, groove diameter and throat diameter and length. With the use of optical inspection equipment the condition of the bore’s surface is checked along with the condition of the barrels crown. Also important is the consistency of the bore diameter and consistency of the twist. Chamber casting will open windows onto any flaws or irregularities in the chamber and throat. After that the rifle is carefully disassembled. As the rifle is disassembled we look for anything that might impair accuracy, such as poorly torqued scope mount or guard screws or stress torqued into an assembly. Vibrations are the result of a lack of rigidity or from stress resulting from the poor relationship of a rifle's different components or subassemblies. Through the use of dial indicators these problems are identified and solutions can be recommended. Many times these problems are reduced or eliminated during reassembling. Some problems are not as easy. Poor chamber work can be devastating to good accuracy. The best match grade barrel and pillar bedded stock will never yield good accuracy if your chamber has a crooked, or over size throat. Each of the 29 points are checked or measured then given a grade of 1 to 5, 5 being perfect.

Accuracy depends on Shot-to-shot consistency. A great deal of a rifles ability to achieve this consistency is dictated by the relationship between the barreled action and the stock. During the firing process, a great deal of recoil or kick is created which tends to shift the barrel and action in the stock. This change dramatically affects the rifles ability to achieve shot-to-shot repeatability. Nothing short of a good epoxy bedded stock can insure that your rifle is attaining its potential accuracy.
Pillar bed, (recommended for live varmint and benchrest rifles) refers to the process of epoxy bedding an aluminum pillar sleeve in the stock around the guard screw hole. This allows the guard screws to draw the action and the trigger guard together against a solid aluminum pillar sleeve.
Epoxy bed action and float barrel. (recommended for most hunting rifles) This refers to epoxy bedding the rifle’s action, chamber area of the barrel and trigger guard. The guard screw holes are bored over size and filled with high compressive strength bedding epoxy. This creates a epoxy pillar within the stock. The barrel is free floated.
Epoxy bed entire rifle. This refers to epoxy bedding the rifle’s action, barrel and trigger guard. The guard screw holes are bored over size and filled with high compressive strength bedding epoxy. This creates a epoxy pillar within the stock.
